about

The b.nine project evolved out of an idea to pursue drone and layered pieces which were both developed quickly and took advantage of texture and found sounds. Tracks were built from improvisations and the juxtaposition of found sounds. This is the third in the series.

The Bandcamp version of the album includes a special edit of 'tre'. The physical, handmade CD has the extended version of 'tre' at 29 minutes. Physical CD's are available at live gigs.

In addition to the drone based pieces on previous albums, this one has a tighter integration of music and real world samples, explores the boundary between noise and pitched sounds and the mixing of their layers.

During my time in Japan I collected many samples and inevitably Tokyo's exceptional transport system became a popular place to record. Exploring the country by train became a real audio / visual experience. The results developed into the theme for this album.

samples and field recordings : am and short wave radio | ryogoku kokugikan | shinjuku station, tokyo | buskers, paris | tate modern, london.

recorded, mixed and mastered at the.backroom, stourbridge and super hotel, shinkoiwa, tokyo, 2017 / 2018.
